Study Tour Strengthens Oni Municipality: Exchanging Expertise with Latvia's Enter Gauja Cluster

On 3-8 October 2023, with EU support, a delegation representing the Oni Tourism Cluster, Oni Municipality City Hall, and PMC Research visited Gauja National Park, Latvia. During the visit, experiences were exchanged with the Enter Gauja Cluster. Importantly, the study tour was part of the EU-funded “Economic Development of Oni Municipality via Business Cluster Creation and Investment Attraction” project.

Furthermore, Oni Tourism Cluster members and Oni Municipality City Hall officials met with representatives of the Enter Gauja Cluster. Here, the latter shared experiences regarding institutional development, financial sustainability, services provided to members, projects implemented, and stakeholder cooperation (public, private, and educational). Moreover, the Georgian delegation also visited tourism facilities, observing how their services are packaged and provided. Meanwhile, local officials from the City Halls of Sigulda, Cēsis, and Valmiera underlined the importance of public-private cooperation and the cluster’s role in tourism development for each municipality and Gauja National Park. Finally, members of the Oni Tourism Cluster engaged in a significant seasonal event organized by one of the Enter Gauja Cluster members.

Ultimately, with the support of the EU, the Georgian delegation acquired valuable knowledge and experience from their Latvian counterparts. Looking ahead, this is expected to strengthen the Oni Tourism Cluster and enhance local economic development.

The “Economic Development of Oni Municipality via Business Clusters Creation and Investment Attraction” project is being implemented under the EU initiative “Mayors for Economic Growth.” Crucially, it aims to increase the economic competitiveness of Oni Municipality by creating and developing business clusters and making it more visible and attractive to potential investors. The project’s anticipated impact is the improvement of the social and economic conditions in Oni Municipality via the operation of more competitive MSMEs, as well as increased employment and investment.
