EIB Global launches programme to help Moldovan farmers modernise farms and food processing

Moldova

On 23 October, the European Investment Bank announced that its development arm, EIB Global, will provide €150 million under a new phase of the Fruit Garden of Moldova (Livada Moldovei) programme to help farmers and agri-food businesses modernise production, improve storage and processing facilities, improve logistics and expand access to EU markets.

The Fruit Garden of Moldova II programme will provide better access to long-term financing for agricultural businesses, from farms and orchards to processing facilities and distribution networks. Part of the financing will also support public investment in agricultural education, research and food safety infrastructure. The operation is backed by an EU guarantee under the NDICI – Global Europe framework and is aligned with the EU’s €1.9 billion Growth Plan for Moldova.

Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova Iwona Piórko commented: “This project is about creating opportunities and bringing Moldova’s economy closer to the European Union.” She added: “This is a concrete example of how the Growth Plan is delivering benefits for businesses and communities across Moldova.”

The new operation follows the first Fruit Garden of Moldova programme, which had supported more than 500 agricultural investment projects across Moldova by 2025.
