Georgian organic food producers go global during BioFach 2019

Companies from Georgia secured more than €600,000 worth of orders from international buyers at BioFach 2019, the world’s leading trade fair for organic products, in Nuremberg, Germany.

The participating companies are beneficiaries of the International Trade Centre’s ‘Eastern Partnership: Ready to Trade’ project, funded by the European Union under its EU4Business initiative, which aims to connect SMEs from Eastern Europe to global markets.

As part of the ITC-supported delegation at BioFach, producers from Georgia exhibited a variety of organic products, including herbs, juices and teas.

“It was a great opportunity for us to showcase our herbs and teas. B2B meetings organised by Ready to Trade helped us find new international clients,” said Ioseb Kobakhidze, managing director of the Caucasan Georgian herbs company.

During the B2B meetings, Georgian companies established more than 60 new business contacts with leading companies from the European Union, Canada and Taiwan, and received orders for their organic products from 15 buyers. Pomegranate juice and herbal tea were among the products that drew the most attention.

BioFach is the world’s biggest fair for organic products. It brings together more than 3,200 exhibitors and approximately 50,000 trade visitors from 130 countries. It is the meeting point for suppliers and decision makers in the industry. Participation in the fair helped Georgian companies find new sales opportunities and partners.

The Eastern Partnership: Ready to Trade project helps small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to access new markets with a focus on the EU, helping SMEs identify and comply with quality and standards to meet international requirements, linking them with buyers along the value chain, and providing cluster support.
